IELTS

Overview

The International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, is the most popular proficiency test for the English language, first introduced in 1980 AD. IELTS test scores are recognized as proof of English language ability at thousands of universities, colleges, and workplaces around the world.

There are two types of IELTS tests: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. IELTS Academic, therefore, targets those more interested in undergraduate and postgraduate programs abroad, whereas ILETS General Training is the test one should write for programs below degree levels or for work purposes. The IELTS General testing scores show the English language proficiency for use in everyday communication. Both the IELTS Academic and IELTS General Testing is divided into four sessions of testing, namely listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The two types contain the same tests of listening and speaking; on the other hand, there are differences between reading and writing for both IELTS tests.
